窒化珪素セラミックスの耐酸化性に及ぼす酸素導入の効果（第２報）｜Nippon Tungusten Review

The first report in 2001 Nippon Tungsten Review(NTR), Si₃N₄ ceramics used in this study were introduced to oxygen during preparation by three different methods; 1) pre-oxidation of raw powder, 2) sintering in different atmospheres, and 3) controlling the amount of Al₂O₃ to be added as a sintering additive. Their oxidation behavior in terms of change in mass, morphological surface composition and cross-section of the specimen was studied between temperature of 1200 and 1400°C. Though mass change could hardly be seen below 1300°C, it was observed remarkably at 1400°C. In isothermal oxidation at 1400°C, as the amount of Al₂O₃ increased from 2mass% to 4mass%, the mass of the specimen also increased.
So that it was recognized to be necessary to analyze the beginning of the oxidation resistance between temperature of 600 and 1000°C, in order to clear the behavior of the oxidation resistance between temperature of 1200 and 1400°C. In this report, there was a trend that the oxidation of specimens with less introduced oxygen began earlier than that of specimens with more introduced oxygen at 1000°C or lower.

2001年のNippon Tungsten Review第一報では、1）粉末酸化法、2）酸素を含む雰囲気焼結法、3）Al₂O₃ 添加による酸素コントロール法の3つの方法で酸素を導入したSi₃N₄セラミックスの研究を行った。この実験では1200～1400℃での重量変化、表面と断面の組織を解析した。重量変化は1300℃以下では観察がむずかしく、1400℃以上では顕著であった。2～4mass％Al₂O₃ 添加の試料は1400℃における酸化が増加した。
よって、Si₃N₄セラミックスの1200～1400℃での酸化挙動を解析するためには、600～1000℃での酸化挙動を解析する必要があり、今回の研究では酸化初期での挙動を解析したが、結果として、酸素導入を行わなかった試料は酸素を導入した試料に比べて酸化開始する温度が低くなることが認められた。
