Development and Some Properties of Tungsten Dispersed Copper Alloy

Abstract

Copper-10mass% tungsten alloy powder was obtained by co-reduction of mixed tungsten-trioxide and copper oxide powders at 973K for 7.2ks.
In the alloy obtained by hot-pressing of this co-reduced powder, very fine tungsten particles (about 100nm) were dispersed uniformly in the copper matrix.
At the room temperature, the hardness of this alloy was Hv151 and electrical conductivity was 85%IACS. After annealing at 1173K for 3.6ks, these hardness and electrical conductivity were Hv147 and 84%IACS, respectively, which were also as same as those before annealing and were superior than those of commercial copper-zirconium alloy.
It was confirmed that the hardness and electrical conductivity of this alloy was hardly influenced by annealing conditions since the structure of this alloy is very stable.
