A tungsten disk (TD) is a disk-type contact point made of 100% tungsten. Tungsten has the highest melting point (3,380°C) in metals and low vapor pressure. In addition, it does not lose its shape at a high temperature. It is one of the typical metals that are produced by powder metallurgical technology. However, TD has a weak point. Its contact surface is easy to oxidize in the air; therefore, its contact resistance may increase. To solve such a problem, we developed AOD (Anti-Oxidation Tungsten Disk) whose contact surface is coated with WC so as to have resistance to oxidation.
